Book Review: Unearthed

Unearthed (A Blackpool Mystery), by Jordan Gray, surprised me with it's simple country charm mixed with the excitement of a chase. Video game designer Michael Graham and his wife Molly have moved into a small English seaside town and have quickly made friends, and enemies.

Following clues from a shooting, Michael and Molly soon discover a sinister history behind a resident of the town. A buried treasure wanted by the gypsy mafia also figures into the story, and all plots coalesce into a blind chase through the caves under town as the Grahams try to avoid booby traps to stay alive and outwit their pursuers.

I wasn't aware Unearthed was right in the middle of a series and picks up right where the previous installment left off. I was at a loss at first to understand what was going on, but the narrative quickly brought me up to speed. That didn't create an obstacle to enjoyment though; I wanted to find out what was happening as much as the characters.

Unearthed was provided to me by the publisher for review and will be available on shelves April 19, 2011.
